I was born in a small town called Salar in Murshidabad India, after the 1947 partition of India & Pakistan. Growing up we moved a lot and I grew up in 4 different countries, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and also Indonesia. I got married and I came to the USA with my husband. I have been here for almost 45 years. At one point of my life, I worked as a montessori teacher, then I worked in a hospital, and now I own a business. I have 2 children & 3 grandchildren, and by God's grace they are doing good. I live in the south by myself in the wonderful city of New Orleans. ~ Gulnar |
My father Masud passed away in July of 1992, and my mother Badrunnisa in September of 2001, the same week that 911 took place. I was devastated by this. At the time I didn’t have any savings, as my children were still in college, I wanted to do something in their name.
In 1994 when I first visited the village where my parents were born, it just hit me, that I would like to start a school for the poorest of the poor children . I wanted it to be an English medium school. Students have M.A's and double M.A degrees in the local language, and yet cannot speak English. They have a very difficult time getting a job. My vision was that one day these children will become teachers, doctors, engineers, and all sorts of professionals, and not only help their families, but other poor children to get higher education. In 2015 I bought a piece of land in my parent’s village, in Murshidabad, India. It was soon built and named B & M English Medium School . I started the school of my dream in 2016. The first year we enrolled only 60 students, but today there are 170 students! I am happy to say that those children who couldn’t speak a word of English, can now say small sentences in English. This is the only English medium school in the entire area that offers free education for the children. No tuition!. I have been fortunate to be able to fund this as well as paying five teachers, a guard, a cleaning woman, and a manager. Now I need help to run this school, and to add more classes. To help the unfortunate & needy families in educating their children is the best way to invest your money. Besides getting blessings from them, hundred percent of your money will go towards educating these children. If you would like to visit the school , we have a nice house on the school premises and you can stay there for free. Please donate as much as you can afford. Every little bit helps. We are a non-profit organization and your donation is tax deductible. |
